Pals since the 90s, Joe & Mike have shared years of questionable fashion choices and ridiculous business plans. After some dodgy batches and accidental fermentation, they perfected the Six Barrel Soda Co. syrups for cocktails and sodas in their Wellington, New Zealand dive bar Monterey. Since 2012 they have been shaking up the soda game with experimental batches and flavours that pop. They are a small team of soda lovers who make wonderful drinks worth savouring.
All of their drinks are made with real ingredients, like not-from-concentrate NZ citrus juices, organic ginger, central Otago cherries and fair trade organic cane sugar from Paraguay. Their drinks are free from preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colours and flavours and contain around 30% less sugar than most sodas.
Ginger ale syrup is made from fresh ginger root for spice and a full gingery flavour, a little black pepper for heat and organic cane sugar for a rich natural sweetness. Try it with a wedge of lime or in gin, rum, vodka or American whiskey drinks.
Cherry & Pomegranate is a refreshing twist on a soda fountain classic. Using real cherries and pomegranates this syrup has a little sweet tartness.
Orange & Dandelion is an original recipe based on Italian bittered orange sodas. Made using the zest and juices of Valencia or Naval oranges (depending on the season) alongside lemon zest and juice for a refreshing citrus backbone. Added roasted dandelion root, kawakawa and hops give bitterness and floral notes and organic cane sugar provides natural sweetness. Try it with a slice of lemon or in gin, tequila or light rum drinks.
